Diagnostic radiology deals with using different imaging methods to assist in diagnosing disease. The most common imaging techniques for diagnosis include the X-ray or radiography, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), ultrasound and other nuclear imaging techniques.
Intervention radiology involves using some of the relevant imaging techniques to perform minimal invasive surgical procedures. An example of an imaging technique used for diagnosing cardiac diseases is angiogram, and based upon the findings a minimal invasive surgical procedure known as angioplasty is used for treating the disease.
Therapeutic radiology also called as radiation oncology is a procedure for the treatment of cancer and other diseases with radiation administered through an external beam which delivers ionizing radiation to the diseased area destroying malignant cells in the process.
Clinical radiology is a term used for people pursuing a carrier as radiologist; it covers all aspects of radiology consisting of diagnostic radiology, intervention radiology, therapeutic radiology and pediatric radiology etc.
