Health Savings Accounts will change the way millions meet their health care needs because they are designed to help individuals save for qualified medical and retiree health expenses on a tax-advantaged basis. Patients and employers love Health Savings Accounts. Medical practice reimbursement staff should be asking plenty of questions about them. Reimbursement is no longer just about deductibles and copays. Knowing the ropes is not at all a problem because HSAs can sink your collections efforts and leave you with more uncollected A/R than you had before.

Tax-advantaged contributions can be made in three ways:
- The individual or family can make tax deductible contributions to the HSA even if they do not itemize deductions;
- The individual’s employer can make contributions that are not taxed to either the employer or the employee; and,
- Employers sponsoring cafeteria plans can allow employees to contribute untaxed salary through salary reduction.

With the immediate effect, when you remove a patient’s devitalized tissue, you can report one of two new CPT codes that specify the wound’s size. The codes better describe your work and improve your reimbursement. Typically you perform this kind of treatment on diabetic wounds and pressure ulcers. Coding for wound care interventions is no walk in the park. Between strict documentation requirements and the HHS Office of Inspector General ready to pounce on anything suspicious, your hospital outpatient department can’t afford to make one mistake.

Albuterol is a bronchodilator that relaxes muscles in the airways and increases air flow to the lungs. It is important to use albuterol regularly to get the most benefit. Conducting a chart audit is one of the best ways to uncover gaps between what you document and what you code. Poor results are an indicator that it’s time to review the E/M documentation guidelines. The complexities that arise with reporting with these physician extender services are not always a pretty picture and certainly don’t fetch the feds to discover major snafus in billing practices. Non-physician practitioners are using more of practices to ease the busy load and increase capacity.

It is hard for these children to control their behavior and/or pay attention. It is estimated that between 3 and 5 percent of children have ADHD, or approximately 2 million children in the United States. This means that in a classroom of 25 to 30 children, it is likely that at least one will have ADHD. The most common behavioral disorder and learning in childhood is ADHD which affects 4 to 12 percent of all the children in America. Without identifying early and proper treatment precautions, ADHD can have serious consequences which include failure in school, going in to depression, relationship failing substance abuse and disorder conduct.

The specter of government officials is even prosecuting them for prescribing certain narcotics like oxycontin for chronic pain management practices. As the result of this the physicians from pain practices from all over the country have been charged with crimes and drug distribution to murder. Even some providers sight such risks as unacceptable and refuse to set down ongoing narcotic medications as they know the patients need. Considering this, a well intentioned practitioner can also end up with sued by the patients because of prescribing the addictive medication to them. This leaves the provider in to mal practice lawsuits for inadequate pain management for leaving many patients in intractable pain.
