Update on Critical NCCI

Thursday, April 17th, 2008

As the world is changing according to the new strategies, the doctors and physicians can say farewell to troublesome DEXA edits. Medicare’s National Correct Coding Initiative (NCCI) latest version is announced. It’s up to us to know how to implement each and every one of them as the new CCI edits comes out every quarter. Ignoring CCI edits can cost the practice or facility hundreds and thousands of dollars. But for once, there’s some good news from NCCI. Thanks to Version 14.1, effective April 1, 2008, you can once again report DEXA and absorptiometry codes 77080-77081 and 77083 with brachytherapy codes 77750-77799.

Make sure you know every new CCI edit that affects your coding practice. But CMS didn’t stop with its deletion — as usual; most of the changes in this version of CCI were new edits to the already expansive CCI edit database. The compliance has already been regarded as one of industry’s best practices. Transcriptions services is a step in the right direction as far as measures to comply with industry level best practices is concerned.
